The temperature dropped last night and we need to put on the heating before getting up, but there is an almost cloudless sky and the bay looks as beautiful as it did on our first morning here.
We watch three fishing boats literally racing to the quay in Portimao then it is time to say our goodbyes and leave Nick and Grete after five weeks together.
Driving across to Portimao there are storks everywhere on chimneys and lamposts. The town is not that attractive but we find the retail park where we stop for diesel and a supermarket.
The road towards Monchique rises steadily through beautiful forest as we leave the coast. A little before 13:00 we turn off the road onto a dirt track that twists and turns up to the mini campsite at Caldas de Monchique. There are only 14 pitches here but not all are taken and we are checked in and settled in no time. The pitch is separated from the cliff by a ranch fence with a deep valley and towering mountains before us. Sunlight bathes the valley in forty shades of green with only a few small bildings scattered here and there.
Ali gets a load of washing in and we use the excellent wi-fi to find out about the area and make some plans for the next few days.
Later we chat to Dick+Jan on Skype then, after four evenings of eating out, we have a simple supper of fish fingers and oven chips.
