Just a quick blog today to keep up to date before we fly on to the next leg of the tour tomorrow.... Australia here we come!
so on saturday we took the MRT (Mass rapid transport) - basically like the tube but a lot cleaner, quicker and cheaper over to the eastern side of the island, before taking a bus to the Changi Chapel Museum - this is fairly new, built out next to the prison - giving lots of history of singapore during the war. also learnt that the prison that was used in the war and for years after was knocked down a few years ago to make room for a big shiny new rehabilitaiton centre. after the museum we got the bus back to the mrt station, just getting on before the thunderstorm started, luckily we managed to keep dry! that night we came back and ate some nice street food in chinatown again - a bit cheaper than the duck we had the night before.
sunday we both felt the lack of sleep from the past month catch up with us, so after a nice long lie in we decided better do something with the day, and headed over to a hawkers centre over in the commercial district for lunch - more char suew (bbq pork) and duck :) then wondered around, saw the old supreme court and city hall - being converted to arts museums now - fullerton hotel - the old post office - used by the japanese during the war - raffles landing place, parliment building, boat quay, lots of bridges, etc etc. then off on the MRT to the east coast again to the lagoon food village (another hawker centre) for some chili crab!
today we are heading over to little india for one last curry before we leave, then hopefully to the night safari in the zoo tonight.
tomorrow not much planned, just getting ready to leave in the afternoon...
keep in touch,
Yvette and Tom!
p.s. wendy no presents yet, didnt think a rasta thing from Thailand was particularly authentic!...
