Arrived in Singapore at about 6am, taxi to the hotel in the most torrential rain (first we've seen for months). This weekend is the first Singapore Grand Prix - a street race at night. Unfortunately we can't get tickets so will have to watch on the telly.
We are staying just off Orchard road, the biggest shopping road in Singapore - although as we later found out there are malls everywhere. There is a fab food hall in the basement of our nearest - Ngee Ann City. Singapore is a real mix of cultures: Chinese, Malay, Indian and European amongst others. We visited Little India, a part of town which a strong Indian community. This month is Deepawali (Diwali) so there is a lot of activity - Floss loved the stalls with trinkets and bright lights. We had lunch in an authentic cafe (no tourists) and ate our curry and rice with our hands (right hand only, of course - FM sat on their other hand to make sure!). We also passed a couple of Hindu temples which were beautifully decorated.
Another day we went to Chinatown, which was very different. There we visited a Buddhist Temple which was incredibly ornate. We have tried loads of different foods (Floss enthusiastically, Max more tentatively). After a week of intensive sightseeing, we need a holiday and have booked a week in Thailand. More spicy food!
We took the underground train to the Science Centre, trains are very clean, modern and are air conditioned! Floss and Max continue their education. Love Singapore.
