After a massive night out in London catching up with all the Lagos crew I somehow navigated my way to Heathrow airport to meet my darling sister Carmy xx it was such a fluke I made it there on time after catching multiple buses an trains with no idea really where I was going an having no sleep.... But I did it!! Wasn't going to miss it for anything in the world! After being away from family for months I couldn't contain my excitement of seeing her!
She walked out of the gates an it was so many hugs an some watery eyes, so happy to see each other again!!
We caught the train to our backpackers just near Hyde park in London an settled into our 24 bed room with triple story bunk beds in an old dirty beautiful building. Then we headed into Camden town an spent the day walking around the massive markets an ate yummy spicy Spanish food, sat on the edge of the river while the sun disappeared drinking some beers an catching up on all the time gone by..
After a while friends started turning up, there was Marni (Carms friend from school) an her friend, an Angela my friend from school too. Turns out it was Angela's bday so that's when the tequila shots started an the night turned into a crazy fun night of dancing like insane people an talking rubbish till the early hours of the morning. An amazing fun first night out with Carm!
We got in some sleep an set out for our big road trip adventure.. Traveled to London stansted airport an flew to Malaga in Spain. We arrived at our hotel an it was the most beautiful little Spanish place you've ever seen! So cute an picturesque. Another quick walk around the town an a good long sleep later we were picking up the keys to our wicked camper van an our road trip began!!!!!
First stop was Grenada, a big beautiful place about 2 hours inland from Malaga. The driving was the funniest because we were on the opposite side of the road, lots of honking horns an screaming through roundabouts but we slowly got used to it. Carm was trying to navigate by following a river in the map instead of the road! Hahaha.
Our wicked van was pained like a massive cow an named 'déjà moo' an she was awesome for attracting attention!!!
Next stop was Gaudix - a city built up in the mountains where all the houses were inside the rocks! - most amazing thing ever!! Its like an underground city!!! All you could see we're chimneys, doors an windows on massive mountain rocks, they actually build inside the mountains! We opened up the sunroof an while I drove carm stood up out the roof taking pictures while all these little village people stopped, laughed an pointed at us in our big cow car. We clearly looked way outta place hahaha but we were so in shock of this crazy city in the mountains that we didn't care..
After driving through mountains for the last few hours we headed back to the Spanish coast to the town of Almeria and then onto Cabo De Gata just next to San Jose. By the time we got here it was pitch black but we found a spot on the sand to park an set up camp for the night. Now we're just waiting for the sun to rise an surprise us with an amazing landscape of the water an the Spanish coastline.....
I wonder what tomorrow will bring?.?.?.?.?....
When we woke up we were surrounded by the Water an massive mountains - such a beautiful contrast when they are put together - we set off straight away along a tiny coast road that wound around the cliffs along the beach an after a quick stop at the lighthouse we found a little private beach at the foot of a volcano. Freshened up with a swim an headed back to Cabo De Gata, we set out our table an chairs on the beach an cooked up a yummy breaky of eggs, toast, , vodka an juice mmmm....
While we were eating breaky a dust storm blew in and slowly everything disappeared until we couldnt even see the waves 20 meters away, so strange! We were just sitting there on the sand in a thick brown mist only able to see each other ..
Alicante was the next stop so off we went, winding our way through many little local towns full of old buildings an tiny streets. We went straight to the beach an relaxed for the arvo swimming, sun baking an watching Spanish men play soccer in speedos - should be illegal! We decided to splurge for one night an have a proper Spanish meal so we found a big restaurant in town an had the most yummiest food ever!!! First we had clams (pippi's) in a spanish sauce, then a whole fresh squid with the fins an everything still attached, lobster rice with a massive full lobster in it, bread an many glasses of red wine.... Never been so full!! Amazing yummy food though.... We ate lobster brain too! Tasted like s*** ...
Red wine goes straight to your head an we were both a bit wobbly walking around with our food baby's. A few more drinks in our van an these 2 Spanish guys insisted on joining us, they taught us heaps of Spanish words including 'toquito' which means I love u... Spanish guys are defiantly not shy! Every 2 mins they're saying how beautiful you, gets on your nerves after about the 3rd time.
Carm and I made an excuse that we were meeting people to go 'bay-la' which means 'dancing' at a club, or disco tec ( that's what they call clubs here, so funny! ) an made our escape.. It didn't last long an soon we were surrounded by a new group of Spaniards, there've was a girl this time an she showed us all the moves on the dance floor, swinging your hips around like your doing the flamenco! All the music here is Spanish pop an very different to what were used to but by the end of the night we were dancing around like we'd been doing it for years hahahaha
We both woke up with sore heads an still full bellys from the night before an decided driving was the best plan for the day, if we got to Barcelona early we could stay an extra night, so off we went again!!! The petrol was low so first stop was to get fuel, here there are attendants at every petrol station that put the fuel in for you, I paid the cash then we drove about 10 meters when our little cow shuddered an cut out..... The lady put diesel in it instead of petrol!! We were stuck! An after trying to explain it in Spanish we finally found an English speaking man in the que who translated for us. We had to wait over an hour for them to pump the tank dry an refill it with the correct fuel - such a s***ty start to the morning ... but our déjà moo is a trooper an we were flying off again through even more cute little local towns... On the outskirts of some of these towns there were girls along the sides of the road, prostitutes! Heaps of them walking up an down the highway in barely any clothes, one girl just had on a g-string waiting for the next car to take interest in her ... Suddenly this massive massive mountain boulder rock thing started to appear in the distance, it was right on the furthest point in the town of Calp and we had to get a closer look! We drove right up to the base of it then trekked up the side taking pictures of an amazing view over beaches and bays! Never seen such a big rock!
A few more hours of driving an we'd hit Valencia!!!!! City drivers are nuts! They fly around an swerve in an out of each other, the roundabouts don't even have lines so all these cars pile in an honk an dodge their way around - scary stuff! Almost crashed so many times, got beeped, went down one way streets an screamed our way through the city until we found the glorious 'golden arches' of maccas..... Such a relief !!! Our whole trip has been saved with maccas free wifi :) we found a campsite right in the centre an navigated our way there only to find it didn't exist!! We were in an industrial area with smashed up houses, rubbish, graffiti, under a bridge an down a dirt road in front of what looked like a smack house getting stared down by some weirdos.... Got outta that getto place so quick! Did skiddies in deja moo even! Hahaha an back to maccas it was to try again. We gave up after a while an booked into a place called 40 flats... It was a themed hotel where every room is designed by a different designer so it was like a lucky dip to see what key you were given... We walked past doors with diamonds saying 'Paris', black ones, metal plated ones an ours right at the end was bright red door ... We got a shock for sure when inside our room was all red, the wall covered in paintings of boobs an v-gg's, red brothel lamps and bedspreads covered in comic book pictures, so funny!!! We asked but no other rooms were available an it was cheap anyway so we decided to embrace the moment ..... after taking all the pictures off the walls :)
We walked a few blocks into Valencia's 'science park' in the city. It's full of the craziest buildings!! The main big one looked like a spaceship an was surrounded by water an had a big party going on for VW cars. There was so much security around we couldn't work out why an then the music started.... A show began with lights, water fountains and dancers!!!! There were Ariel dancers swinging in the sky an a dance crew on the ground putting on an amazing show to bursts of water an fire that shot out of everywhere. It was amazing! I think it could have even been circ de solay??
Then we were off again almost at our final destination of Barcelona!!! The drive was beautiful, the sunset turned mountains, ruins and windmills into siloets on the horizon until the city lights took over the sky's. After a full day of driving an a few hours at our campsite it was time for sleep! We were up early an straight into the city to explore, first stop off the train we walked into the middle of a Spanish protest, flags an people everywhere chanting about keeping the country together as one or something. Markets and shopping, pictures and exploring, then a seafood paella in this fancy restaurant which we had such high hopes for :(
Finally it was time for some familia faces an we walked to Ryan (carms friend from school) an his mates unit.
Lotsa catching up an drinks then a big night out on the town! So much fun. The morning was the worst! Our plane left around 12 an we were still out partying at 7 so we went straight from there onto the train, after spending an hour trying to find the station, then jumped in the van with no shower or anything to drive it to the drop off point - no idea where it waS! After driving around like crazy people for ages we finally found the place an the guy actually offered to drive us to the airport, obviously knowing we wouldn't make our plane otherwise! We made it with 2 mins to spare!!! Biggest relief!
Then it was good bye Spain an hello Greece!!!
