Private Tour: Lisbon's Hidden Highlights

From: £24.14

Duration: 4 hours

Category: Sightseeing

Discover the lesser-known sights of Lisbon on this private city tour. Skip the busy landmarks and head to entertaining and interesting locations like the Lisbon Zoo, the Estufa Fria Gardens in the Park Eduardo VII, the impressive Águas Livres Aqueduct at the Water Museum and the Christ the King (Cristo Rei) monument. Along the way, you’ll cross the Tagus River, and admire views of the beautiful Lisbon skyline and the Alcantara Valley.

Your private tour guide will pick you up at your Lisbon hotel, and after you are settled comfortably in your private vehicle, enjoy the drive to the Lisbon Zoo for an educational and entertaining start to your sightseeing tour (all entrance fees during the tour are at your own expense).

Spend a pleasant hour visiting the 120-year-old zoo, home to animals from around the world. See the sea lions being fed or watch a dolphin acrobat show, depending on the zoo's schedule, or visit the birds and reptiles at the Enchanted Forest. Then head to Animax, the zoo's amusement park, or visit the children’s farm if you’ve got little ones.

Back in your vehicle, continue to the Estufa Fria Gardens (Jardim Estufa Fria), located in Park Eduardo VII in the heart of the city. As your guide tells you about the garden’s history, go for a walk to see the variety of plants, visit the cactus garden, admire the beautiful fish pond and enjoy a peaceful moment surrounded by a lake, waterfalls and statues.

Next, take in views of central Lisbon as you head to the Water Museum (Museu da Água) to see the Águas Livres Aqueduct (Aqueduto das Águas Livres), a remarkable Portuguese feat of engineering from the 18th century. Hear interesting facts about the aqueduct and what its construction meant for Lisbon from your private guide, and enjoy panoramic views of the Alcantara Valley.

Then cross the Tagus River on your way to Almada, on the river’s southern bank. Here, see the Christ the King (Cristo Rei) monument, which stands tall with open arms, overlooking Lisbon.

Your private guide can adapt the itinerary to your needs. If you have any special interests, please specify in the Special Requirements box at the time of booking. See below for details on the four vehicle options: a minivan, Mini, luxury car or convertible.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

20%

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

40%

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

80%

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

100%

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

60%

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport.
