Take time out to explore the Galician High Estuaries on a day trip from Santiago de Compostela. The High Estuaries area, on the Artabro gulf, is known for its fishing and tourism, scenery and rich history stretching back to pre-Roman times.
Your tour will take you along the beautiful coastline of northern Galicia, scattered with beaches and villages. You'll visit Pontedeume, a lovely medieval fishing village, situated at the foot of the steep Breamo Mountain.
Continue on to Betanzos for views of Mino, a seaside town with a long beach and sandy hills, and wonderful views to the Betanzos estuary. Betanzos is a pretty town with interesting Romanesque and Gothic monuments, including Santa Mary's Church of Azogue, and Santiago and San Francisco Church.
For lunch, enjoy a three-course meal introducing you to some of the region's gourmet flavors.
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to visit La Coruna, the provincial capital. This beautiful seaside city, situated on a peninsula, is divided into three parts: the old City, the center, or pescaderia, and the "Ensanche".
La Coruna is a lively port city and its houses are decorated with the famous glass-galleried facades typical of the region, giving rise to the city's other name, the "Glass City". You'll also see Hercules Tower, the only still-functioning Roman lighthouse.
