Ok! Picture the scene!
Back in our hotel room after dinner, I ask Damian for his phone so that I can do today's afternoon/ evening blog.
He fumbles in his trouser pocket...NO PHONE! I call his mobile using my phone...it rings ,BUT WE CAN'T HEAR IT! Even on silent we would be able to hear the vibrating noise...but no such luck !
"OMG, it must have slipped out of my pocket in the taxi on way back from the restaurant!"
Sh*t, Sh*t and Sh*t say both adults in unison.
As we make our way to the front desk,
Damian frantically tries to fire up the "find my phone App" on my phone.
Amazingly we locate the phone via the App, a street 10 minutes from the hotel. We try and call again but still no pick up.
We ask the front desk to text a message in Vietnamese to return the phone to the hotel, but they advise against this.
It would alert the driver to the phone, he may just take it or worse still if he turned it off, we would loose all "contact" with the phone via the app! Arghhhh!
Front desk call the restaurant.
I noted that they made a note of our taxi number as we got into the car.
We await while they check the list...
Front desk also check their CCTV footage of when we got out of the taxi.
In the meantime one member of staff says, "let me take you on my motorbike to track it down. I know that road!!"
OMG!
One snag, my phone only works if there is wifi, so they are unable to take the phone with them. Damian puts a helmet on and off he goes ! My instructions are to text the hotel motorbike man if the location of the phone moves!
I was worried, but really one had to laugh. I had resigned myself to not seeing the phone again...and that it would be a very long night with a very grumpy hubby!
After 10 minutes, the location of Damian's phone started to move. That was it I thought..no more phone!
BUT, someone up there was watching over us today. Another 5 minutes later, and Damian and his new best friend were back in the Hotel WITH THE PHONE!!!! The moving location was them as they were making their way back.
We were super lucky .
When Damian got to the location, there was a line of taxis stationery. The first one he approached was our guy.
Damian recognised him immediately.
The phone in question was sat on the front passenger seat, exactly where it must have slipped out of Damian's pocket....
Today was our very lucky day.
Lessons to be learnt..make sure you have the "find my phone" app on your iPhone and always always zip up the pocket you have your iPhone in when travelling!!!!
