After a lovely cooked breakfast we set off in a tuk tuk to the Royal palace...not as impressive as we thought it would be so slightly disappointing. The place looked very tired and unkept.
Another tuk tuk ride takes us to prison 21. This was a sad sight. Pre Khmer Rouge, this was once a happy school .
Lots of photographs of those who were taken prisoners . A total of 16000 were killed at this site. We met Bou Meng , one of only 7 survivors of prison 21.
Next stop, the domed indoor central market. Sold everything from pots and pans to diamond necklaces! By this point we are all starting to flake and lunch is needed to re energise!
Neither Trip advisor or the lonely planet (our bibles when it comes to choosing restaurants) has any suitable recommendations so I make an executive decision to head to the nearest plush hotel.. It so happened to be Raffles :-)
Yummy lunch of chicken satay as we sat by their poolside . A member of staff even came by and cleaned Jake's sunglasses!
Then back to our Villa Salt hotel to chill and swim in the pool.
Pre dinner, a tuk tuk ride along the river side to see young people play ball , then off to buy some cheap CD's ($1.50 each) and DS games ($0.50 each) for the DS's .
Dinner at "Friends" restaurant. A charity run place where they train young people (who would otherwise be on the streets) to cook. Delicious food and a great atmosphere. Next door a lovely little shop selling lots of trinkets and scarves.. even a nail bar ! Emma had fun getting her nails painted and decorated ($3) All the money goes back to the charity.
Tomorrow, a 4 hour boat ride to take us to Chou Doc, Vietnam...
