Definitely back in a big city! Back in traffic jams as we head to our hotel, a 30 minute drive from the Phnom Penh airport. 6 lanes of crazy traffic! Lots of tuk tuks, lots of motorbikes and lots of cars!! After the slower pace in Siem Reap, it took a bit of getting used to again. Like any city, there were the smart cars and very smart shops and restaurant chains...things we have not seen the last 4 days.
We love our hotel here.. The Villa Salt boutique. Only 14 rooms . Run by a british woman and only been open for 1 month. Very central , very chi chi, and very cosy. At £50 a night for the family suite a bargain!
By the time we are checked in it's nearly 5pm.. Too late to do any sightseeing. We hitch a tuk tuk (we miss mr mean) and head for the indoor shopping centre ( we need a new memory card for the camera) The 10 minute ride was a tad stressful... Soooo much traffic!
Dinner at The Malice, 3 minutes walk from the hotel but OMG, these 3 minutes to get there took at least 10 years off my life! The restaurant is only across the road from our hotel but across a road of 4 lanes of very busy traffic! And there ain't no zebra crossing or traffic lights!!!! What they have though is A MAN to take you across the road while he waves his baton and "stalls" the cars/tuk tuks/motorbikes.
It's dark and wet and scary. Jake thought it was fun.. I didn't !
Now back at the hotel after dinner, having been safely navigated back on our return leg of the journey across the road by man number 2.
An early night tonight. Was a late one yesterday, as I watched a very tearful Murray after losing to Federer.
Tomorrow the Royal palace, prison 21 and Psar Thmei (the central market)
