Great day today. Started with some family research. Ran into a dead end with great-grandfather but found great-grandmother whose maiden name was Catherine Kelly.
After a late lunch we decided to do a hop on hop off tour of Dublin. It was fantastic!
The bus driver was hilarious and very informative. There was 23 different stops, any of which we could get off and take a tour and then jump back on again. The ticket is good for 2 days so if we wanted we could go back and do some more tomorrow.
And of course, we had to visit the Guinness Storehouse for Pop. It's brilliantly done. The self-guided tour starts at the base of a huge pint glass shaped structure. It was an interesting tour with some worthwhile displays. You walk up 7 floors until you reach the Gravity Bar where you're served a pint of the god-awful stuff but the view is fantastic.
Back on the bus for more of the tour and some compulsory souvenir shopping which we've had sent home. Much cheaper than I thought.
Ireland is expensive and we really need to spend more time here. 2 weeks would be better than one. Off to Belfast tomorrow for the ferry trip to Scotland. Will update more on the ferry tomorrow.
