so then it was off to switzerland and NOT austria as my terrible memory says...
well switzerland is SUPER pretty with its alps and what-not...although it kinda felt like germany in a way...all these germanic countries...ah its a tough life...
got to lucerne and had to take a cable car ride to the summit of mount pilatus which i was not looking forward to and did not fail me in that respect...there was about a 40 minute trip in a 4 person seater...just what would one do i wonder if the thing stopped? i wasnt worried about falling to the ground - as everyone says the swiss are known for their saferty-conscious standards...but i dont like time which is not chosen by myself to be on my own...of course my companions would have kept me company i suppose...anyway, once id opened my eyes and taken in the scenery, things werent looking so bad...like a picture postcard someone said and aint that the truth...think little cottages and fur trees all kissed by snow...and footprints in the snow...after that was a gondola ride for about 15 min which swung madly at one point and was terribly high up as we reached the peak...and what bliss at the top! heavenly snow to crunch under your feet and powder snow to form into balls...and so cold but crisp...bout -5 during the day...the hotel was lovely...some of my new friends made a snowman with their own gloves and scarf and a carrot from the kitchen...
that night was the swissco disco...i kid you not...being on top of a mountain it wasnt easy to get anywhere so i paid about 13 swiss francs to get a bourbon and cola!!!!! apparently the swiss dont want their finances monitored by the EU so theyve kept their own currency...a very expensive country but very clean...gratzi to you swiss...i didnt realise that swiss german was the predominant culture/language...feels the same as germany again with the odd french word thrown in for good measure...
as i did not want to take the cable car down again plus i was suffering from the excesses of swissco disco, i spent the next day hanging out on mt pilatus...apparently a happening place in summer and in winter when you can sun-bathe cos they have sun up that high...think it was about 2000 m or 7000 ft...saw a dude play his alpine horn which was eerie in the calm of the alps and there were so many blackbirds...strange...had a swiss fondue which was strong on the alcomohol and smelly cheese and only had potatoes to dip in...tried their hot chocolate too and was disappointed...not how i remembered it...nothing to write home about...and their chocolate was mainly toblerone and lindt! tried another brand and was under-impressed...that night watched eurotrip - a somewhat recent amercian movie it was kind of appropriate for what we were getting up to - specially in the future...
next day took the cable car ensemble down the mountain and felt much better overall - best to close ones eyes really...
a final look at lucerne and then off to austria (i think)
