After what seems like a lifetime of travelling, I've finally arrived in my beloved Bournemouth!
The eight or so hours at Sydney Airport seemed to fly by in the end and the flight to Singapore was uneventful (apart from the old man in the seat behind me who a couple of times actually pushed my seat back towards me when he thought I was going to lower it back. The person in front of me had lowered theirs as far back as it would go, and I lowered mine just a fraction, but that was evidently too far for him, which was just too bad as far as I was concerned. He soon gave up. Dick.). I was hoping to have around an hour between landing in Singapore and taking off again - an hour I wanted to spend in part freshening up by having a shower. As it turned out, I only had about 30 mins between landing and getting on the next plane! From an eight hour flight pretty much straight on to a 13.3 hour flight - ugh!
We were delayed landing at Singapore. The plane was just about to land when we suddenly headed back up again. Apparently there was a plane that had been hanging around on the runway a little too long, so we flew around for another 15 mins or so. What was cool about that was that we got to fly over the water again and see heaps of boats lit up - it looked beautiful. Once I got off the plane, I had enough time to change top and socks, then it was lining up for the next flight.
Watched a lot of tv and towards the end of the flight when it was lighter, I turned on Skycam every now and then. There is a camera mounted on the tail and you can flick onto the channel and see what it looks like outside! It was cool watching the plane go through the clouds and then see London below! I also managed to get some sleep, but not enough really. I'm actually beyond tired - I don't think I'd be able to sleep now if I tried. I will try to stay awake as long as I can and get onto British time.
I managed to change my bus to an earlier time and finally got to Bournemouth, to be met by a very happy Mel (as was I!). I'm chuffed to be here for her wedding this Friday - it will be a blast. It was great driving to her place through Bournemouth and noticing all the changes - it feels like I have never left, even though I was last here six years ago. I can't wait to get out into town tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm still not feeling 100%. My cold was heaps better before I got on the first flight, but after all that time in airports and planes, and surrounded by people coughing and sneezing, and the lack of sleep, I'm feeling a bit under the weather. I'm sure I'll come right soon though. (Before I made it outside at Heathrow at 6.30am-ish today, the only other time I'd been outside in the fresh air was at 4am in Welly, before flew out!)
I think that's it for now. Toodle pip!
