In the memory of the lady who had a road accident today, wishing her love and quick recovery....
I just saw a little old lady hit by a truck as she crossed the road
She seemed so tiny compared to huge rubber tyres by her feet.
Her life scattered around her,
A trolley topped to its side with her shopping,Items of clothing next to her,
Lying still on the hard tarmac.
I found myself lying next to her so she wasn't alone,
Her eyes were neither sad nor anxious.
I felt her falling in a black hole,
Numbness washing over her body,
Neither gripping nor fighting.
Silence was all she could hear and a still gaze at the bright blue sky,
Distance sounds didn't seem to matter, nor the deafening sirens.
Her fingers gently curled in, feeling the touch of cool breeze,
Her head tucked to one side, not in pain or in need.
I wanted to be with her in that black hole,
Where life stood still, and yet supportive.
She just surrendered to the moment,
Waiting to be lifted so she could continue, as though nothing has happened.
I wondered what crossed her mind as felt the big iron mass on her body,
Was it last night's loneliness, tomorrow's gathering,
Or the time she may have spent now with her grandchildren.
None of it mattered, as peace was upon her.
Having touched so many lives by that incident
The truck driver, the old lady, and me lying next to her...
We all listened to the same silence.
