What lies have you been telling?
Today continued to unfold in a fun way. Especially Swami's session, now that we have all gelled and bonded so well no one holds back in the classes anymore. And Swami enjoys our cheekiness.
Anyway, today's topic was yamas and niyamas (the moral codes of yoga), so when we got to Speaking the Truth the group lost it! Because speaking the truth means many things, not lying, not misleading, being honest…So if someone's haircut is disastrous, or their ass looks the size of titanic in that dress we have to tell the truth, or keep silent which could be worse in some cases.
Then when we got to not misleading people Swami needed an example, and there came my mum's words from my childhood…
- If you don't finish the food on your plate it will cry
- If you eat standing up the food will go to your feet and you'll end up with gigantic feet
- If you eat the sheep brain you will be a clever girl (just picture this one with your mum cracking open a cooked skull as she says it)
- When your toys go missing "oh the bird took it away" hence I was always confused and mad at birds, why would they take my toys?
- When you laugh hysterically the devil is tickling you…
And the list goes on. The group also finds mum's craziness pretty funny. But then it made me think about the fact that I really appreciate those lies now, because they are funny. How dry would life be if those white lies weren't told? I remembered a friend of mine from work, who would always clap her hands after she sneezed because her mum said if she didn't the fairies, would die. It was pretty cute to see that at the age of 30 she was still clapping every time she sneezed.
But then I'm not very innocent when it comes to playing with children's imaginations. Simply because they are so pure and they have the ability to believe that everything is possible in life (something we have lost in our conditioning). I told my brother that superman is real, when there's thunder in the sky the clouds are telling all the kids to go home and lots more! Oh my god, I even introduced myself to young kids as Mimellum Bug (millennium bug) on the 2000 new years' eve…
How fun??
How many lies have you been telling then?
