Witness Something Majestic!
When I first heard this I was sitting at Stillpoint yoga studio after my practise and taking in the view through the glass doors. The mountains, blue sky, never ending green grass, the singing birds, rays of the sun, fluffy clouds, the calmness and stillness in the air. And John said "Oz you look like you really are taking this in, like witnessing something majestic". I looked puzzled, and he explained that it was from the movie "the Bucket List". Having seen the movie I understand exactly what he means now. It is a place where everything falls into silence. And it was a view that I could close my eyes and re-create, simply because I was also in that good space, also in silence. A
s I watched the movie I remembered the number of times I had written lists, what I wanted to do before certain ages, before 18, before 26, before 30…That was probably the last list I had written. Most I had achieved one I clearly remember was to write a book which seems to be still in progress. I found my passion for writing again this year, there has been times where I couldn't stop my hands from typing; it even felt slow because I wanted to say so much more, so much faster. A friend had told me that the language is a barrier, not always a tool to communicate. Because for someone to explain what they feel is limited with the use of words, and then it is even more limited by someone else listening or reading because of their perceptions and their own language barriers. So are we really saying what we mean and are people really hearing what we say?
However recently I also experienced again and again that what makes us happy is the journey and not the final destination. We get so focused on the final goal that often we miss the moment of fun, moment of sharing and learning. The people we meet along the way guide us so much, what seem like a coincidence is always so much more meaningful. I've had many conversations with people where they started the sentence "I don't know why I'm telling you this but I feel like you need to hear it…" and only a few realise that they are put in that moment more as messengers and hence whet they say is not from their own ego but from somewhere much more resourceful.
When I was in Brisbane Liz's housemate Brendan came in our room the morning I was leaving and said "Oz I feel that I need to give you this as a gift, it might be difficult to take it through customs but I feel that it is yours" and showed a thin long box in his hand. When I opened it there was a beautiful feather of a bird, a vulture, to me it looked like a hawk feather which I found out was my animal spirit guide during a shamanic journey in India. I received his gift with gratitude because even as I held the feather in my hand I could sense the presence of hawks I have seen circling above me in India and in New Zealand.
"Witnessing something majestic" doesn't necessarily mean we have to climb up a mountain or find a beauty that is indescribable. It is witnessed in the silence, in the moment, in that good space. You could be with your loved one and witness it in their eyes; you could witness it in a tree, in the ocean, in the valleys or sitting in a yoga studio looking out….
