What else could happen in Mysore?
I took a rickshaw with Raju (the best driver in Mysore) to Ajay's yoga shala this morning where I practice. So it was 5.30am, quiet streets, Raju full of energy and smiling as usual, I was yawning in the back seat and simply watching what was around me.
In such state of sleepiness sometimes it is difficult to take things in but something surely stood out for me: people walking in the streets. It was women in their saris and a hand bag on their shoulder, men in their shirts (they don't wear anything else but shirts, India is yet to discover t-shirts) walking in the middle of the road, on their road and very fast. To me it looked like something out of a horror movie as the streets are so dark with no lightening and the headlights shining on these few people walking vigorously the streets of India (lets say the highway of India) is pretty scary to look at. They could be sleep walking for all I know or zombies coming to get you!!!
In the spirit of such weird things we are experiencing we have decided to start a list of questions we have but don't really dare ask for an answer. I will be writing these more concisely but at the moment here are a few:
- Why is there a man shouting in the streets and selling papaya at 6am in the morning?
- Who buys papaya at 6am in the morning?
- Why do you need your receipt stamped by someone as you leave the supermarket?
- How does the architecture work in this country, why do people get such ugly structures built and not consider what their neighbours' look like?
