Yoga with Ganesh: The cats we have in the staff house are to die for. Ganesh is beginning to be my favourite, reminds me of myself. Very loud, persistent, stubborn, likes to grab everyone's attention (my god, these qualities aren't the greatest in life but certainly describe Ganesh well)
Sayuri and I have been practicing yoga in the mornings in the living room. 6.30am every morning Goa is still partly asleep, not so light outside, monkeys aren't jumping around on the roof, crows haven't started the sonata of the day, village people aren't walking past our window whilst talking loud…As well as Sayuri and I we do have another being lively and enthusiastic though, and that is Ganesh. He hears us making our way to the room and elegantly jogs across from the kitchen, screaming at the same time. He obviously wants attention. If we haven't managed to shut the door of the living room by the time he's made it there we are guaranteed to struggle through the practice. This morning he sat on my mat as I did my sunsalutaion, licking his bottom. Every time I did an upward facing dog he would raise his head to catch my eye and then continue his business until I finished a whole cycle. You generally have to be careful not to whack him in the head when jumping back. Sayuri struggled more today though; she had to get couple more mats to extend her own as Ganesh seem to take a significant amount of space. In the end the length of the whole living room was yoga mats. It doesn't help to push him out the way gently or locking him outside because he knows how loud he is, he will wake the whole house up than give up. I surely love this cat!
