I'm not really sure about the day of the week or the date anymore. Today Theresa, Adam and I decided to tour around the famous beaches of Goa starting from the very hippie ends of Arambol in North Goa. As I had seen the beautiful Kerela for the past two years in a row now perhaps my expectations of Goa beaches were much greater than what I witnessed. It was partly due to the overcast weather but the sea was rather gray, the beach was dirty with dogs and cows leisurely walking around and plastic scattered everywhere. As the season has not started yet most beach shacks, shore restaurants and cafes are closed. So this ghostly effect does not make the beach welcoming either. Probably the best stretch was in Ashvim which seemed more laid back and classy. Other places were full of young, drugged up, long haired, hippie looking people. In fact as we were going past a tourist sitting at a café with a newborn kitten and got talking we realised that from her slow response that she was still high from something she had taken. Then it was more downhill in Anjuna beach, which is the closest beach to where we are based, however the loud techno music with a strong smell of dope in crowded bars like the Shore bar and the Curly's were definitely a site to see. People weren't necessarily happy or content; they just looked dazed and spaced out. I felt so out of place, so uncomfortable. I don't think it will be the beach I will be spending much time here in Goa. Oh, on our way we saw a run over cat in the middle of the road. We decided not to leave it there as other drivers would probably run it over completely so we drove to the house to get a shovel and Adam was brave enough to move the dead body to the side of the road. Phew, I feel pretty effected by that. Especially coming home to gorgeous three cats and knowing that it could have been one of ours.
