We moved in to the house in Secret Harbour on the 6th and unpacked our backpacks... what a relief! We did a big food shop, had long baths, washed all our clothes, watched depserate housewives and slept for 12 hours! The next day the job hunt began... i got an interview at a creche in a gym but they didnt seem to keen when they found out i was only here to work for 2 months and emma got a trial shift in the pub in Mandurah.
Once we'd settled down and were still looking for jobs i started to get a bit home sick. It felt a bit strange to settle somehere that isnt really home. It's like being at home a bit but without friends and family. That passed once we started to make friends and we got new housemates though. Emma got the job in the pub and that sorted out our social life straight away because all the people emma works with are really fun and they invite us to everything. The BIG night out here is Thursday night and everyone gets really dressed up to go to the pub! Seems pretty strange to me but it's a really good atmosphere. Last Thursday night Emma wasnt working but we went to the pub anyway thinking we'd just blend in with the crowd but everyone stared quiet a lot and we felt very much like the new girls. People came up and asked us about our travels! It still suprises me how people just know that we're a travellers even when we dont have our hippy clothes on or our backpacks!! We're no longer the new girls in the pub and it's turned into a perfect place to hang out.
Our housemates are amazing i couldnt have asked for better housemates. We have Venessa who's the landlord but she's really cool and helpful, always dropping and picking us up if she's around and helping us cook. Then we have the french couple- Sedwick and Dorethy, who are really funny and although their English isnt that great their great company and great chefs!! Then the day before yesterday a Swedish guy and an English guy moved in- Dave and Rubin, they've added the fun factor to the house as well as the messy factor! It's a perfect balance now and we all spend lots of time cooking, relaxing round the pool, playing cards and chilling together. Today it's Sedwick's birthday so we're all going to do something to celebrate tonight.
Last week Wendy (ex upstairs neighbour) who was in Perth took me and Emma out for a lovely Japanese meal and then for a tour around Perth which was really nice of her, we had a lovely evening. I got a call from the french bakery in Mandurah and started work there today. It's right next door to the pub that Emma works in so that's handy! It's a big relief having found a job and my first day went well.
One last thing- there are 'beware of snake' signs everywhere here and me and emma are more than paranoid! We've invested in a torch for the night times but that doesnt really make us any less paranoid and jumpy..
