The train from Agra to Mumbai took 40 hours. As you can imagine i coudnt sit still for most of the journey. I love train journeys but 40 hours is even too long for me. I finished my book in the 1st hour, I'd updated my diary and finished writting out postcards in the 2nd hour, in the 3rd hour my i-pod froze i fiddled with it for an hour but it remained frozen for the remainder of the journey, I ate my way through the munchies that were meant to last us the whole journey in the 4th hour. This left me 36 hours to fidget. It was a long, sweaty, stinky train journey. Luckily the rocking of the train kept making me fall asleep which made the journey go much quicker.
By the end of the journey i felt like id been to rave. I had that exact feeling of when you get home early hours in the morning and you feel filthy and just wanna shower, eat and then sleep for the rest of the day. The difference here is that we arrived in Mumbai at 10 at night with no accomodation booked, I doubted that we'd end up with a room let alone a shower that worked or hot water. The likelyness of us finding food that we trusted would also be out of the question and sleeping well in a noisy place like Mumbai- I doubted it. However it looks like my prayers were answered we found a clean, nice hotel almost straight away and wait for it this is the miracle bit... someone was looking over me at this moment- there was a Nandos restaurant just down the road. YES!! NANDOS! I got to eat my first full meal in almost 3 weeks and ate ice cream as well. We both had lovely hot showers and flopped into bed!
We're staying in a very different bit of Mumbai than where we stayed at the beginning of India. It's very built up and I hate to say it but it feels great to be in a city again. Today we even found a shopping centre which had in it a supermarket- the first supermarket we've found since we've been in India. In the shopping centre we bought the lonely planet Thailand book. We also found a nice traditional India meze restaurant, we couldn't not have Indian food on our last day in India.
We've had a lovely last day in India and I feel sad that we're leaving. I'm just getting used to India! I've just perfected my tunnel vision when walking through the streets and my selective hearing skills. I no longer have to mentally prepare myself every time we leave our hostels. I dont feel bad that I cant give money, food or drink to people that need it in India. I don't guilt trip myself if i ignore someone begging from me even if they have a child. I understand that I can't help everybody and that if i started giving people money i wouldnt be able to continue my trip which is something ive worked so hard for. The first time in India had been tough but im glad that i've got it over and done with because i know it wont be a quarter as hard when i come back fo a second time.
By the way my i-pod has recovered...!
