I left my house at 0730 hours to meet Susanne in Waynesburg, Ohio at 0930. Passed a really bad truck accident on I-77 by the Akron-Canton airport. From there we headed south to Moundsville, West Virginia to go to the Hari Krishna "Palace of Gold". We stopped at a little Italian place along the way for some homemade ravioli andd tiramisu for lunch.
The road to the Temple is not paved, which wouldn't have been bad, except when we were halfway through the 3.5 miles to get there a water truck was coming the other way. The decent gravel and dust road quickly turned into Mr Toad's wild and slippery ride! We made it to the Temple, but it was threatening to rain, so I suggested we get the hell outta there, as I didn't want to spend the night at the "hotel" on the temple grounds. We did manage to pull in to a paved area by the visitor's center to turn around, as that would have been impossible to do on the very mucky road. We took a picture of the big elephant statue, and back down the slippery slope we went. Didn't get to see the temple, but I am sure it won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
From there we headed to Rt 7 and followed it along the river to Gallipolis. We are staying in actually a pretty decent motel run by a very nice Indian woman named "Geta". She didn't take my credit card intormation when I made the reservation, nor did she provide a confirmation number, so I was prepared to be sleeping on a picnic table in the park downtown. But, the motel is actually pretty nice. Nice big rooms, flat-screen TV, It's and older motel, but clean. And the shower was hot.
We ate dinner at the Courtside Bar and Grill in sunny downtown Gallipolis. I had a very tasty French Dip. I am still sick (after 3 weeks) so today was pretty exhausting for me.
Tomorrow morning for breakfast Susanne and I are riding to the Bob Evans Farms, home of the original Bob Evans restaurant. We are staying in Summersville, W VA, at the Sleep Inn Saturday and Sunday nights. Jessika is riding down tomorrow to join us.
