We only had time to drive through the small country of Luxemburg, but it was well worth the detour. The country is small, but clean, beautiful, and friendly. We drove through snow, sunshine, clouds, forests, babbling brooks, green fields, and clean, bright, well cared for villages, We drove up to Vianden to visit an absolutely fairy tale castle, which has been renovated and set up as a sort of museum, although we didn't go in because we didn't want to pay the $10 each to see it. Fern and Meg carried on the family tradition of sitting in the back of the van crocheting and ignoring the beautiful scenery and history unless we pointed it out, but it was a fun family road trip. Sam also carried on the tradition of talking to anyone with a dog that could be a hunter, and actually managed to find one, who spoke English and was married to a Thai girl who was finding the cold weather too much!!! I, as usual, continued to take a million photos so we were all happy. There are lots of walking trails which would be fun to try out one day. We had a little trouble momentarily with the van when it started making a warning noise but no light came on. We stopped and checked everything and tried to find someone who spoke English, to no avail, but eventually we drove off again and it stopped the noise so who knows what that was.
We spent the last night of our trip in a camping ground in Aachen, Germany, playing cards and having a lovely time with the girls. We ran out of gas, which led to a rather cool night, but it was a good end to the road trip.
