We had an early start this morning. Breakfast & on the bus by 7 for a visit to the Fort Niagara first up. Mike really enjoyed the stop. It's an old stone castle which was used as a fort in the battle between the British and the French. They demonstrated an old gun which was used and explained that it was such a crappy shot there was no aiming required. In fact if the bullet came out of the gun when the trigger was pulled you were having a good day. It fired on the 4th today. I asked what is a bad day and he said he has loaded and attempted to fire up to 12 times until it eventually 'shot' the gun.
Hmmm should I add in that we got up super early, arrived at the forts 1 hour before it opened, then Mike and I threw stones at an iceberg for 45 minutes until it opened!!! Gooooood bus tour....
We arrived back in New York (Chinatown) around 8pm, hopped in a taxicab & headed to our Pod 39. We were pretty excited for the 'Pod Experience'. The taxi was a little slow as apparently Mr Obama was in town our Jamaican taxi driver said mr Obama should be at home with Michelle on a Friday night. Unfortunately we never crossed paths.
Arriving at the pod - the place was pumping & we couldn't help but be excited. Friday night in New York & the bar downstairs of our hotel was quite a happenin place. We dumped our bags in our awesome room and headed down. We met a guy at the bar who works as an accountant and is heading to Aus & New Zealand for a total of 8 days!! Not long enough to see out beautiful country I don't think. Especially after jet lag. But unfortunately they only receive 2 weeks annual leave here. We discussed the awful winter they have had- like we have with all the Americans.
Our room - we love it! This place is so so awesome! It is specially designed for travellers. They do walking tours for free & $4 bagels with a coffee for breakfast in the awesome Chinese lantern bar/restaurant. Looking forward to what tomorrow brings. :)
