Upper Eastsiders touching base!
Writing from the train to Washington.....currently just past Delaware.
Flights to LA went well for Roe...un eventful and comfortable....only about 3 hours sleep but multiple episodes of House of Cards helped pass the time. John and Wendy were delayed 2 hours in Melbourne and then of course were 2 hours late in LA giving Roe some anxious moments as she had well and truly boarded the next flight before they caught up! Finally all 3 were together and Roe and Wendy slept most of the way to New York.
Just as well because when we arrived at our accomodation in the cold and the dark the expected handover of keys did not take place......no-one was there! A complete muddle.....as we found out when a very apologetic landlord arrived....apparently the lady who did our booking dropped dead 3 weeks ago....he wasn't kept in the loop etc. so apologetic was he that he invited us all for drinks the following evening....more of that later.
Apartment is great....old, charming, warm and comfortable. Fabulous location.....next door to Armani and across the road from Givenchy!! Streets full of sophisticated New Yorkers and lined with beautiful apartment buildings with a proliferation of concierges.
Roe was longing to see inside one of these apartments .....and lo and behold, her wish came true when we presented ourselves for drinks the following night and found ourselves in just such an apartment - gracious and spacious and dripping with original works of American art. It turns out that his wife, Helene, a very elegant and cultured 85 year old, has been a collector and art dealer for many decades. She was very impressed with Wendy and John, particularly Wendy....who recognised many of the artists. Roe meanwhile felt she was on the film set of a Woody Allen movie and fully expected Diane Keaton to appear at any moment!
Half an hour out from Washington
....another instalment soon
Love to everyone
Wendy, John and Roe

Jeannette hehehe, so there is a silver lining sometimes ... Fabulous!
Anne Good to hear the flights went well & you are already mingling with the cultured natives!! The autumn colours look glorious. Enjoy Washington xxx
Rob C Love it.
FIona I can just imagine that scene! it must have been nice to meet locals - what an amazing lifestyle they must have!! I hope Washington is a fascinating adventure - Perhaps a fortuitous time to start the West Wing?? xxxx PS glad the sums we have to do to complete our comments are easy!
Joanna Helene sounds such a character and I find myself hearing her New York accent in my mind, as well as wondering what she was wearing. We are wondering about the snow, and hoping you have taken lots of warm clothes as there is apparently 1.7 metres of the white stuff in some parts of NY at present! We are about to have a 38 degree day here! Your apartment sounds great - go on having fun. I, too, liked the colours of the Fall and it brought back memories of New England in 1964. xxx
Gaye Gentle Roe & Wendy, What a magical time to be in New York. We are so glad you are both having so much fun ......we are most envious. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Our love, Gaysie & Vorgs xxxx
