Me again!
Well its still bloody hot! No rain at all today and the humidity is very opressive. Tried to do less walking today by using the MRT.
I got up at 9.30am, my room was still dark as there are no windows so I could have slept for ages! I then had to queue for the shower and loo which involved lots of hopping! I started off with walking to Little India but must have chosed the wrong way as I got a few funny looks and walked past a few homeless people. Eventually I got to the main street and took a few photos. There were laods of decorations in preparation for the Deepavali festival. I next got the MRT from Little India to Chinatown where a bloke tried to get me to buy a suit that he was going to tailormake for me! I had to convince him that I had no money! He suggested I put it on my credit card but I told him that it would not work as it is maxed out! He was very friendly but persistant! Chinatown was very busy with loads of shops selling the same tacky stuff. It's extremely culturally diverse though even though its called Chinatown there is a mosque, a hindu temple that is the oldest in Singapore and a buddhist temple. I didn't go in the Hindu Temple as they wanted me to pay $3 for my camera which I think is just rude. I did go in the buddhist temple though and it was beautiful and lovely and cool. I had lunch in this massive hawker centre which had so much choice of food it was amazing. It consisted of lots of different stalls selling a few dishes. I got some char sui pork with noodles and it came with misu soup with some wontons in. I then sat down at one of the communal tables and attempted to eat my lunch with my chopsticks and spoon and tried not to make eye contact with the elderly Chinese ladies sitting opposite me! I love Chinese people eating though as there is no grace - its all slurping and faces in bowls! I love it! My lunch cost me all of $4.
After lunch I got back on the MRT (after trying unsuccesfully to use a squat toilet - the less information the better here!) and headed to HarbourFront. I had thought of going to Sentosa today but decided against sitting on a beach all day as I'll have plenty of that in the coming month. I went down towards it anyway and checked out the prices. it was going to cost me $3 just to go there and then everything costs more money. The Sky Tower which offers views over Singapore and out to see is $8, etc. Not really much money but I haven't any so the smallest amount is a lot to me. Instead I spent a good few hours perusing the endless number of shops in the VivaCity mall which is the newest and largest in Singapore. It was lovely and cool inside but it was hell for me being surrounded by shops and unable to by anything! They have a Marks and Sparks, TopShop, River Island, Zara, Ted Baker, Principles, etc! All the same as at home plus a lot more. I spent a good 15 mins in an electrical shop and saw the best telly ever! A Sony Bravia 42 inch photo tv HD LCD $2599. It had the most amazing picture quality. I don't think that's a bad price? Just over a grand. I played on a PSP and watched some boys on the Playstation 3. It was a big shop! I gave in to one treat today and bought myself a Ben and Jerry's ice cream. It was more expensive than I thought as the menu was misleading but it was sooo good! Phish food - my favourite. I ate it outside in the sun where it melted everywhere! I nearly did a you, Mum, and had it all down my front but luckily I only got it on the bottom of my dress where it's not noticable!
I eventually left the mall about 5.30pm and decided I'd go to the National Musuem of Singapore as it's free after 6pm but after getting there there were all these posh people outside and it looked like something was going on so I didn't venture in. I had a lovely walk through the SMU (Singapore Management University) campus getting there. It's in the cultural district of the city where a lot of the colonial buildings are and the uni buildings are all brand new and surrounded my greenery. It looked like a really nice university. Instead of the National Museum I went to the Singapore Art Museum as that's also free. I joined a small group of people who are also tight arses and waiting in the lobby the 10 mins until 6pm so we could get in free! I wouldn't have paid to go in as I have a short attention span when it comes to galleries. The first few exhibits were cool and then I got lost and had visions of sleeping there! It was all glass and white walls and i couldn't find the stairs to get downstairs! I then went to the gift shop of course! I have been known previously to ONLY visit the gift shop in a museum or gallery! I didn't buy anything however much the sales lady wanted me to! She even put a scarf that was 20% off around my neck to show me how nice it was!
By the time I got out of the S.A.M. It was coming up for 7pm and I had to walk back to the hostel which I did and of course ended up in another dreaded mall! This time I got some fries from MacDonalds as last night my 2 minute noodles didn't really do the job for dinner so I got some chips to keep me going so I can have the noodles later. It's now 10pm and I'm only just getting hungry again so it did the trick!
I got 4 bites last night from I don't know what. I checked my bed and I don't think there are bed bugs, plus the bites are only on my legs and apart from the one above my knee they are around my ankles. Must have been from when I was sitting around outside last night reading. I didn't see any flying things though. So I have been trying not to itch all day. I had a Benadryl this morning which really helped so I may have another one as I'm started to itch! I'm also covered in a sticky, greasy film of Jungle Formula tonight!
Tomorrow my plan is to fork out and get the Singapore Sightseeing Pass for the open top bus network as I really am done with walking and a guided tour sounds perfect. Not even sure if I'll get off the bus! Have booked my hostel in Kuala Lumpur this evening so at least I've got my first 3 nights sorted. It's costing me 12 quid something. Can't really go wrong with just over 4 pounds a night! I hope there are enough toilets in this one. When I've gotta go I've gotta go! Not sure how I'm getting to the airport on Sunday yet as my flight is at the unGodly hour of 7.10am which means being there for about 5am and the MRT doesn't start until about 5.30-6am. Will have to get a taxi I think which is money I didn't want to part with but no choice so oh well! Really hope the Australian Tax Office realise how easy my tax return is and give me my money back asap! It should have been sent in yesterday and should take just 10 business days but who knows how long it will actually take! Until then I have about 100 pounds to live off. Should be good fun.
Ok noodle time. Until next time...
