I LOVE SINGAPORE!!!
It is a complete contrast to any of the other Asian citied I have visited. It is exetremely clean and trendy. From the moment I arrived, I loved it, even though it was raining. I arrived Thursday afternoon and took a long walk to my hostel to get a feel for the city. The roads I walked along could have been Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur but as I got right into the heart of the city it could have been New York!
I reached my hostel, drenched, but happy. Another pleasant surprise awaited me... My hostel. It's called "The Hangout" and it was AMAZING! Modern decor right the way through. Brightly coloured and really comfortable. A huge Veg Out room padded out with beanbags and huge cushions, free Internet access and light, spacious rooms. I was chuffed! What made it even better was that I had only been there 30mins or so and had already found out that the Ministry of Sound club was free on Thursday nights. So my night was planned too. Tried to round up a few people from the hostel but no-one fancied it so I jumped on the MRT (cleaner, faster, quieter and more efficient than the London Underground - although that's not hard to achieve) at Little India and disembarked at Clarke Quays AKA The Waterfront, a more attractive version of Waterloo Embankment. I wondered around for at least an hour before finding a bar I fancied sitting at. It was an open air bar where I ordered a Margarita which cost me an extortionate sum of money! So I sipped it very slowly and it lasted over an hour! In which time I had been approached by 4 English men, one of whom opened the conversation with, "What you doing sitting on your own?" From there I learned that they were all English, now living and working in Singapore as Stockbrokers, and had come out on the piss with their company credit card. I wasn't so bitter about paying a tenner on a cocktail after that as it was the only drink I paid for all night! They showed me around some of the clubs in Singapore for a small price, I had to dance with them to help them bag women???!!! Apparently it works. When it was light outside we called it a night they dropped me off in the cab and I stumbled into my dorm waking everyone else in the room up and slurring "Sorry, too much champers, Darling!"
Everyone apart from Yarets. He is a deaf mute who is currently on his last leg of travelling the world by motorbike. And he is the first deaf mute to ever attempt it and wants to break a world record so good luck to him on his last leg - Asia. If you want to read up about him (quite interesting) and read what I had to say about him then go to www.yarets.com.
Friday was spent wondering around Singapore soaking it up and then back to my hostel for 5.30 to go to Singapore Night Safari. Not quite as exotic as it sounds but still very interesting. It was just a zoo lit by artificial moonlight so the nocturnal animals they had would come out for you to get a closer look at. It was a really good experience apart from entering the bat walkway, which contained HUGE fox-bats and fruit bats that were flying around at head height. Won't be doing that one again.
My flight was at 8.30pm Saturday so I found a gym on Saturday morning and worked off some excess guilt that had been building up inside me, and fat building up on the outside! I felt so good after! Found a guy, Neil, at my hostel who was on the same flight to Bali as I was... Where I was meeting George. I was so excited!!! Think I ended up annoying Neil about him in the end. Flight passed really quickly thank God, but I was really nervous! I got clammy hands and found myself biting my nails. I never bite my nails!
