Today i went in search of the Ten thousand Buddhas, and search I did. I took the MTR from Central to Yau Ma Tei, then from Yau Ma Tei to Kowloon Tong, taking an over ground train to Sha Tin.
I expected it to be well sign posted, but i couldnt see any signs in the station, unless I couldnt see for looking! came out the wrong exit in to the New Town Mall, noticed they had a French Connection, ended up in Sha Tin Park watching people do Tai Chi...
manged to pick up some goverment wifi on my iphone and so google mapped the buddhas, still not much help as footpaths arent proper roads. Headed back to the station, there is this weird Snoopy world play ground outside the mall.
walked around the back of the station, followed the path and ended up in some village, felt like a trespasser so doubled back on myself, kept walking until i found the government buildings, walked past them, found this temple thing with all turtles outside, i took the escalators, about 5 in all up to the temple, nothing was written in english, I dont know what this temple was, i didnt think I was meant to be there, so climbed the steps back down. Carried on walking. Got to another temple, was approached by a chinese man i think basically asking what I was doing, i didnt understand him, he didnt understand me... i eventually got my book out and pointed to the ten thousand buddhas. he pointed right. i kept walking. At this point i was thinking about giving up. thought i was lost and wanted to cry.
I didnt know if i was going the right way so asked a female security guard, i was heading in the right direction, eventually found it!! like a little footpath at the back of the government buildings. I began to climb the 431 steep steps, Buddhas either side. it is extremely humid again today, and after walking around lost for an hour, wasnt really in the mood!
took a break half way up, looked down at my hand to find a black fly thing having a meal out of me! i flicked it off, really should have worn insect repellent!!
Got to the top. It was worth it really, the temple and statues were amazing, and the view wasnt bad. Just wish i would have found it quicker :)
