In the morning, I was awoken at 9am by the phone ringing, asking if I still wanted to go out for Dim Sun for breakfast with Roy, Craig & Jess and Claire. Emma and especially Jane had a hangover, so didn't join us. I quickly got dress, met with the others and headed out. The breakfast was a bit of a disaster as some dishes were not as they were described on the English translated menu, but I suppose this is all part of the experience. I tried everything, but didn’t like much of it.
As some people had to check out go to different places and Emma and Jane still had hangovers, Claire and I went off to Victoria Mountain together, to get the train up and walk back down. When we got up to the top and onto the viewing platform we were up in the clouds and couldn’t really see the city, we took a couple of pictures waited to see if the clouds dispersed a bit, which they didn’t so we headed down on foot. On the way out we bumped into Tom & Sarah, who had walked up to the top of the peak.
We were kind of following the Lonely Planet’s "What to do in Hong Kong in a day" guide. So on the way down from Victoria mount we headed over to the Bank of China tower as there was a public viewing platform on the 46th floor and it was free. We finally found the building, had our bags x-rayed, showed our passports and were given visitor passes to get up to the viewing level. The view was a bit better from here as were where not so high up and below the cloud level.
After this we went for a walk around some of the shopping streets, again looking at some camera gear and things, passing Marks and Spencer’s and many expensive shops like Gucci, Channel, Louis Vuitton, etc... We decided we could buy anything as we couldn’t carry it and also because we couldn’t afford too. We took the ferry back to the Kowloon side and walked up to our hotels.
Roy, Craig & Jess, Emma & Jane, Claire and I all met at the old hotel and went off for some dinner which this time was Italian as everyone was getting a bit fed up with Chinese food. During dinner the waiter spilled a whole Singapore Sling cocktail over Roy and we didn’t even get the service charge or any money knocked off the bill! It was quite nice to have some western food for dinner that didn’t need chopstick to eat it.
After dinner we all went over to Hong Kong island, where Craig & Jess went off to go up to Victoria peak with fully charged camera batteries this time, I gave them my phone so that they could ring Jane when they got down so that they could meet up with us in a bar. When they got back down and met up with us they said it had been a complete waste of time as it was still too cloudy to see anything.
We had a few drinks, but nothing like the night before, said our goodbyes as the group was splitting up as the tour to Vietnam for Craig & Jess and Claire started early tomorrow morning with Roy taking them on a really long trip involving another 26 hour sleeper train. Good luck with that one guys!
