Sophie's first summer came to an end with last nights first snow fall. She's 8 1/2 month old (who would have thought, that half a month could mak such a difference....) and had a heck of an eventful summer. We had some Swiss visitors, Michele and Celine and then in August Sophie's aunt Nicibone, cousins Louisa and Janis and her uncle Bernhard. During this time we also moved into our new home, where Sophie now has her own bedroom (not that she cares too much about it... but that will change...and the sound proofing in the walls will one day come in handy).
Shortly after having moved into our new home we went on our first family roadtrip to Vancouver Island to visit Gramma and Grampa with stopovers in Kelowna and a visit in Victoria. We had lots of fun, enjoyed the great weather and just hanging out. Sophie had her first boat ride on Lake Okanagan, next year she might have to get on water skis .
We were also invited for a weekend to Shadow Lake Lodge. We packed Sophie into her fancy hiking backpack and off we went - the weather cooperated and Sophie enjoyed having a prime viewing spot, gawking around being one of her favourite activities. The odd feeding and nap and other than that, she was utterly happy. It was great to visit the lodge and to show Sophie around - after all she had spent a fair chunk of her "in uterus" time up at the lodge .
We've hosted a couple of dinners at our place and Sophie is starting to loosen up, enjoying meeting new people. She has also discovered crawling... which was scary enough but she has now also started climbing the stairs and is pulling herself up - including climbing onto the dishwasher door. I think we might just have to leave some things in boxes for a little while longer!
Sophie now loves to eat (very good) but does not like chipotle in adobo (no surprise you think....). Her inattentive parents gave her some burger... when she turned beet red and started coughing we figured we should have dissected the meat first..... Luckily this did not seem to phase her at all as she keeps trying whatever we put in front of her (and we now try and keep the spiciness down).
What's next? Halloween - we'll see how that will go down with a Canadian father who hates Halloween and a Swiss mother who has zero Halloween experience.
