Today we had to get up early to catch the airport bus and unfortunately yesterday's bed day did little to ease my symptoms. I still felt incredibly heady and nauseated... Throwing up more than once before we left. We checked out and headed down Nathan road to catch the bus and the whole process was thankfully pain free. The journey to the airport took approximately one hour and we arrived with plenty of time to spare. We decided to check our bags in so I could pass out in a cafe somewhere for a few hours before boarding. On arriving at check in we were faced with a huge queue and I felt sick lol.... then a young check in girl (probably worried my face would scare the other passengers) offered to jump us in the queue by automated check in. We did this and the whole process was a lot shorter... Despite being stuck behind a women and literally her whole family... There must have been about fifty of them and each one had two or three bags. It didn't occur to them to check in one by one and instead there was a massive palaver as each name was called and bags had to be located... At one point I'm sure there was steam coming out of our ears lol.
After check in we headed to the gate and chilled out... Jack grabbed a maccers breakfast and I sipped a hot chocolate. In no time at all it was time to head to the gate and board the plane. The journey to Shanghai was only about two hours and in that time we were served a meal and a cup of tea, this was actually very welcome and made me feel a little better. We then disembarked at Shanghai and instead of heading straight to the gate (we only had about forty mins to the next flight) we had to go through a different gate... Check our tickets, wait in a pen (literally like sheep haha) and then cross through to security again.
Once all this was done we were free to go to the gate where we had a short time to wait before boarding the next flight. On boarding the flight it turned out that we had the same air hostesses as on the previous flight so we could have probably stayed aboard lol... The flight again was about two hours and we were again fed, this was definitely what my body needed and I felt better.
On landing in Tokyo we went through customs and had our finger prints taken and passport stamped by the friendliest immigration guy I've met... We then collected our baggage and headed to customs where an even friendlier guy asked us a few questions... Mainly about our travels and not what was in our bags. We were then free to experience Tokyo. We headed down to the rail ticket office and proceeded to purchase our tickets, while we were in the queue a young japanese guy asked if we needed help and started chatting to us... Turns out he had been an exchange student in the UK. We actually knew roughly what we were doing but chatted with him and thanked him for his assistance, we then bought our tickets and headed to the station.
The train came after about ten mins and we climbed aboard... The journey to Aota took about seventy mins and I enjoyed people watching in that time. It was about ten pm and still really busy. At Aota we boarded a train to Asakusa ...initially we were a bit unsure of which platform we were to go on but a lady kindly told us we were boarding the right train, she must have overheard our doubts. We jumped on and within twenty mins we were at our stop, it was then just a six min walk to our hotel... By now it was nearly eleven fifteen and had been a very long day, on seeing the illuminated words of "Agora Place" I couldn't be more relieved.
We booked in and the guy in the front desk was very helpful and friendly and within a few mins we were in our room. The room was a lot bigger than we had expected and the hotel was lovely. We had a big comfy duck down duvet on the bed and the nicest shower which felt amazing after such a long day. After we had both showered we climbed into bed and fell in to the deepest sleep. It was all a bit surreal as we hadn't initially planned on coming to Japan as its quite expensive yet its one place that intrigues us both immensely. It felt weird lying in a bed in Tokyo!! First thoughts of the place was that the people are so friendly and kind and that is a lot warmer than we thought it would be...
