So here I am in Phuket. Haven't seen much of the place because have been in hospital (suspected malaria) since monday. Turned out not to be malaria - phew! - just gastroenteritis combined with upper respiratory infection and exhaustion. Am fine now as was looked after very well (despite being ill it was a touch of luxury). Think my body really needed the rest. Thankyou for everyone that phoned - much appreciated as it was very very scary to be that ill where no-one speaks english. A huge thankyou to Jonas and Jennie for getting me to the hospital in the first place. It is a real wake up call to reality and the dangers of travelling. Never really occurred to me before as have had such a great and easy time in NZ and Oz. On a lighter note, am heading to Ko Phi Phi tomorrow to do some volunteer work to help clear up some of the mess the tsunami left behind. Will then probably head to Bangkok. Am hoping to meet up with David and Stephen there again. x
