What to do in the land of Wats!?!?
Yesterday David and I took my passport to the Vietnamese Embassy and saw the Golden Reclining Buddah at Wat Pho. Did quite a lot of walking and so saw a fair amount of the city including the Skytrain and the river taxi and one or two more Wats that I can't remember the names of!! The rest of the gang headed to Cambodia - hi guys hope you made it ok. We are only 2 days behind you x
Today has been a bit more crazy. Spent the morning trying to sort out transport to Cambodia - all sorted now, and managed to get a very reasonable price too (12 hour journey for 3 pounds sterling!). Had a great time bartering for some goodies on Kho San Road. Got several T-shirts, two pairs of trousers, hair clips, food, water and a supply of domperidone (much needed here!) for under 10quid!! All that shopping takes its toll on your feet so I had a lovely half hour reflexology! (tough life eh?!). Then had to get back to the Embassy but bad planning meant we didn't really leave enough time and so it was a mad dash down the river and accross the city! What a sight it must have been to see us running (me not very well in flip-flops!!) down the road and banging on the Embassy door!! Fortunately all was well and I now have in my possession my Vietnamese visa (huge relief as to have not got it would have meant another day and night in Bangkok!!). After all the stress and commotion we decided we deserved a massage. I had a wonderful hour long Traditional Thai massage which cost a whopping 3 pounds!!!??
We then took the advice of Lonely Planet and went to Cabbages and Condoms for dinner. Don't worry they have a lot more than that on the menu! The food was great and the whole garden was alight with fairy lights. Instead of an after dinner mint you get an after dinner condom in order to promote safe sex (as AIDS and population growth in the area is a real problem).
Head to Cambodia tomorrow morning (6am start, urrgghh). Have 8 days there but there is no internet there so will be in touch when I reach Vietnam.
Night night. Sleep tight.
