Finally made it to Bangkok after a 12 hour bus journey and a very interesting taxi trip! Will never moan about London taxi drivers again because although they talk a lot of crap at least they know where they are going! My driver did not only not know where he was going but he didn't speak any english and didn't have his glasses on so couldn't read the map I was showing him! O well i made it here eventually and was consequently very relieved to arrive at my hostel...

Well it has been quite an emotional day helping clear the rubble on Ko Phi Phi Island. It really is a heart-breaking site. Although it was some months ago now there is still a lot of clearing to be done. There were many many helpers, some of which have been there since january. Listening to thier accounts of how it was then, I realised I have not seen the worst by a long way. I can't believe how resilient the Thais are. Despite having thier lives turned up...

So here I am in Phuket. Haven't seen much of the place because have been in hospital (suspected malaria) since monday. Turned out not to be malaria - phew! - just gastroenteritis combined with upper respiratory infection and exhaustion. Am fine now as was looked after very well (despite being ill it was a touch of luxury). Think my body really needed the rest.
