Nomad Nads
So today we managed to find the quickest way to get heat exhaustion and indegestion!
Basically we went to Leshan - got there via several buses as the first one crashed into a taxi at a junction (well thats what happens when you don't have indicators or traffic lights!!) and then we needed to transfer to another before getting on a boat to see the Giant Buddah. Clearly it is peak season so every single yellow-and-red-visor-wearing Japanese tour company was also there meaning we queued in the midday heat for over an hour - well apparently thats what us british do best isn't it?!?! The queueing itslef turned into something of a contact sport as the chinese have the lowest personal space diameter in the world and we were not going to be pushed around. Bravo to Jen who managed to hold 2 guys back all the way!!! Eventually we got to see it - no pictures seem to do this 71m high statue justice. You can picnic on its big toe nail!! (not literally - thats just to give you scale). It was enormous and the 2300 steps were a killer in the heat too. We then headed straight back into Leshan - nice little place...pity we didn't have more than 5 minutes there to stuff down a burger before getting our rickshaw back to the boat to get the bus to Chong Du. A quick shower and change and out again to watch the Sechuan Opera. A real highlight with amazing dancers, colours, music, fire and a great Masked dance where the dancers change their masks very quickly with a flick of their head and fan. The theatre was set in a lovely Tibeten district and the streets were truly charming - we managed to pick up a few bargains at the stalls. Then headed for Dave's Oasis for a Baileys and pizza. Its now midnight so am off to bed as have a very early start tomorrow to get to the Panda Breeding Reserve.
Goodnight and sweet dreams UK xx
