Today we journey to the volcano in another car, the transport here is quite limited and these drivers are getting expensive!! Oh well i guess it is the price you pay. Nichol has been reading some not so nice reviews about the area so we are hoping that it will be ok, we've only booked one night so what is the worst that can happen?!
Our driver, who brought his wife as we were travelling to their village and they didn't want to miss the opportunity to pop in on the family, picked us up at 9:00 after we were unsuccessful in finding somewhere nice for breaky, these lazy warung places how dare they open for lunch and dinner only!
On the way we stopped at the touristy rice paties, I know this because we not only had to pay to use the road (only per tourist of course) but there were people on the path asking for donations although it was less donations and more fee because it was mandatory and the least you could give was 10,000! We had some lunch here even though it was a bit pricey and had fried bananas for dessert with cheese on them - not sold but was interesting to try anyway.
On to the volcano ... Only one more stop on the way, this was the vantage point for seeing the volcano but it was quite cloudy, there were also heaps of people selling things, our driver recommended not buying anything - like seagulls to chips! This also seems to be the farming country we saw lots of orchards with the weird mandarins and chillies, the chilli
fields look coolest.
Down and around again until we reached Arlina's - a perfectly clean place, although had a weird fake free in the bathroom for some reason and hot springs! Once we had unloaded our bags we went for a walk around the village, there wasn't much there although there is lots of construction in the area so maybe tourists are starting to come. After we returned we met these lovely German people from Spain who we thought we might accompany north but we decided in the end that with only a few days left and the lack of public transport available to tourists we would go back to Ubud and do things from there. Had a nice chat though and some dinner and drinks in the local restaurant. Then I headed to bed to try and rid myself of a pesky headache, Nichol went for a walk and found himself some fish - it is supposed to be the best place to buy it as they farm it in the lake formed by the mountainous region. No too long after I retired Nichol returned for an early night in preparation for the rudely early start of 3:45am!
