Well, finally made it to Singapore but feeling pretty hung over after that unexpected day of drinking in KL haha.. It was quite an effort wandering around but I finally managed to find Backpackers SQ where Dom was staying. I turned up at around 1:30am waking him up on my arrival then requesting a bed for the night. It was really nice to have caught up with him again since Koh Lanta but a shame I hadn't arrived sooner; he was leaving later that day heading back to Thailand.. After saying I smelt of Whiskey lol and when I found a place to stay he went back to bed.. they were full at the hostel (nightmare) but said it was OK for me to sleep on the sofa. Not a bad sleep considering, plus I saved some precious dollar :)
In the morning after a free breakfast we went to see Marina Bay Sands. It was a really good day just walking around the posh part of Singapore. It was incredibly hot and we got back to the hostel drenched with sweat; Dom checked out and again we said our goodbyes. It was a short reunion but glad I got to catch up with him and wish him well for the rest of his travels...LADS!!
In the evening after making friends with a new group of people I went back to Marina Bay to check out the laser show. It was really cool to see the whole Bay lit up with colour seeing the huge ship like hotel as an impressive backdrop to the green, red, yellow and blue lights. A nice day all in all, but back to the hostel for a much needed sleep.. a sofa is no substitute for a comfy bed!
Well I didn't end up not having the best nights sleep lol; I shared a room with 3 other guys and I'm not kidding I think they were all competing for the loudest snorer in the room! Horrendous sounds which I never thought possible from a person asleep!! So tempted to wake them all up but nevermind..I did eventually get some sleep plus this room was only temporary- swapping rooms in the morning thank god!
The next day me and my new friend Lin went to Santosa- the Universal studios of Asia. We never went on the roller coasters but went to check out the man made beach and the most southern point of Continental Asia..pretty cool place to say I've been. It started to rain quite heavily so unfortunately we never really had the time for our beach day.. Cut short it was still a good day, atleast it got us both out of the hostel.
In the morning, after nearly 3 months of traveling I had ran out of aftershave..about time I treated myself so I went on the hunt for Abercrombie and Fitch haha. In the city centre it was crazy busy yet so clean, never seen a place like it. Singapore actually reminds me of a more modern, efficient and clean London. The tube/train is awesome! So regular with no delays..nobody is ever late in Singapore haha! In the evening we both quite fancied an Indian curry. We heard a good place believe it or not was in Little India haha..when we came up from the station you wouldn't think you were in little India but India itself- So busy heaving with people no other nationality in sight, maybe a taste of real India?? With Lin as our guide (he had been before but didn't know his left and right...great) it took us absolutely ages to get there..So hungry!! I went for the usual chicken tikka (level 4) enough to get me on the spice wall of fame :) (it goes up to level 10) I just about managed it haha!
The following day in beautiful sunshine I spent my day in the botanical gardens. Was nice to just chill in the sun and read my book. Good to get out and away from the busy city streets and lie on the grass all day. The evening I went to China town for some food, then to a fountain for another laser show. Not as cool as Marina Bay but a nice way to finish Singapore..
Without a doubt I have loved every minute of Asia..very sad to leave it behind but I am definitely looking forward to New Zealand!! Nevis Bungy time!!! Bring it on..Whoop!!
Until then,
Nathan.
