My first blog post! It comes courtesy of free internet at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue. New York is great - everything that comes to mind when you think of New York is true. Everything is bigger; from the pizza to the apples to the cars to the skyscrapers!
So far I have been doing a LOT of walking and sight seeing. The views from the top of the Empire State Building were fantastic and made all the better by the fact it was a lovely sunny day. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were both very interesting - the history and stories behind Ellis Island are fascinating. Times Square at night is something to behold as well. The neon lights seem to turn night into day! I also visited the site of the World Trade Centre. Although it is just a building site what happened there is obviously still fresh in the mind of New Yorkers. In addition to all the sight seeing I have been doing some cultural things as well. A visit to the American Museum of Natural History is something I would recommend - the exhibits are very good, as is the planetarium and space centre (which I got into free as someone had a spare ticket!). The MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) was O.K. - most of the art was not to my taste! Similarly the Guggenheim, whilst being a famous gallery, was not particularly interesting.
Anyway, as you can tell I've been having a very busy time of it lately - time to relax for a few days I think. Perhaps I'll do some window shopping along the very exclusive shops of 5th Avenue, which include Gucci, Prada, Ralph Lauren etc!
See you in California!
