Today is our last day in Kalbarri - we are leaving in about 90 minutes to catch the bus to Monkey Mia for two days to watch the dolphin feeding :) Kalbarri has been really good - on Sunday Em and I got up for the pelican feeding and then walked about 5km south to Red Bluff - a red bit of cliff from where we could spy big splashes - whales! We never actually saw a whale but we saw the splashes which is near enough! It was really rocky and windy but there were some surfers out who were really good. We kept bumping into a man who turned out to be travelling ever since he retired and it was really interesting talking to him. One of the parts I am enjoying most about being away is all the people I am meeting.
On Monday we went on the tour to the national park, and hiked up to see Nature's Window (the picture at the top of this page - haven't managed to load up my own pictures yet) and Z-bend which is a z-shaped bend in the gorges. Then we walked down to the bottom of the gorge and canoed for a couple of hours. After lunch the man then made us climb up the side of the gorge, something I never thought I would do. But because he just told us there and then, I did it and I am so proud of myself! I pulled about a zillion mussles in my legs though so have been walking funny for the last two days - Emily keeps laughing at me because my legs keep giving way beneath me! The views from the top, and the bottom of the gorge were amazing and I really enjoyed the experience. The tour guide was not as eccentric as the one at the Pinnacles, but showed us some of the shrubs that could be eaten in the bush and showed us fossilised tracks on the rocks in the gorges from creatures that were around millions of years ago.
We had a lazy day yesterday, and I managed to watch Home and Away with a woman from Oz who brought me up to date with what has been going on :)
Today Ems and I went to watch the pelicans again and then walked down to the Seahorse Sanctuary, where they are breeding seahorses for use as pets to save seahorses from being taken from the wild. They are so tiny when they are born! And then they are sent to seahorse school where they learn to eat pet food so they can survive in people's houses. It was really interesting and they are so fun to watch!
I can't wait to see the dolphins tomorrow! I haven't seen much wildlife yet - I saw an emu when we were at the pinaccles, and some galahs, and there were three kangaroos in the distance but I couldn't really see them because I didn't have my glasses on! So I can't wait to see some dolphins close up :)
