I have about a week and a half left at Deep Well, and then I'm back on the road again. I can't wait to start travelling again, but I'm going to miss outback life. It's so peaceful (most of the time) and I have spent every afternoon for the past four days sat in a tree with the youngest boy playing house. With monsters. I love it!
Over the Easter weekend we all went to a bush festival at Aileron, which is a roadhouse with a racecourse about 100km north of Alice, straight up the Stuart Highway. We passed the sign telling us we were in the Tropic of Capricorn on the way, which was cool, although Napperby and half of Australia is in the tropics, but anyway, still cool. The weekend was brilliant - I camped in a swag and there was a rodeo during the day. It was amazing seeing all the men on the bucking bulls, but even more incredible were the "clowns" who have to catch the bull after the rider falls off. Crazy, crazy people. The atmosphere at the festival was so lovely and friendly and eveyone knew everyone else, even though they all live on stations hundreds of kilometres away from each other. The Napperby lot were there too, and it was lovely to see everyone again :)
Life on Deep Well is never dull, and the kids keep me busy if I'm not cleaning. I went into Alice Springs the other day with the family. Who knew there was a golf course in Alice Springs?! The town has everything. There's a lovely housing estate that reminds me a lot of Beaumont Park in Whitley Bay, except about 20 degrees warmer, which I found very strange for the middle of the outback.
Melbourne in two weeks time - bring on Ramsay Street!
