Happy New Year! New Year's Eve was brilliant - I went to a bar on Circular Quay with my friends which meant we got to dress up and drink champagne and oggle at all the massive crowds that were in the public spaces. The fireworks were brilliant and the whole harbour cheered everytime there was an extra impressive one, which was sooooo cool. There were fireworks at both 9pm (for families) and midnight. The 9pm ones didn't include the harbour bridge but were still fantastic - they had all kinds of fireworks I hadn't seen before including blue circles with red five-point stars in the middle of them and big green ones that looked like they were coming towards us. And no horrid shrieking ones :)
The midnight fireworks were on the theme of creation but I couldn't pick up much except for the weather. They had thunder, obviously, and then after a while when the sky got really smokey they set some off that just looked like flashes of light behind the "clouds" for the lightening. Later it looked like it was raining (in the picture above) and then when the fireworks were over they lit the bridge from the middle like the sun, and it caught in all the smoke like rays of sunshine. That was pretty impressive!
I had such a good night and therefore was in bed for most of the first day of the year! But on the 2nd, my roommate and I went to Wollongong on the train to visit a buddist temple. The train ride there was good as it went along the coast and I found another Scarborough :) The temple was beautiful and it was all really interesting.
Back to work today though. I was with pre-schoolers this afternoon and they were brilliant and settled back so so well after the holidays. I was with babies and toddlers this morning so had the whole range today. I'm in an internet cafe in town right now as I couldn't be bothered to walk home just yet but I'm off now. Hope 2009 started well for you all!
