We arrived on Phi Phi, blue skies, sunshine and a ray of hope having left boring island. We found some accomodation just a little in land and ended up paying about 4 a night for it. Was very quaint and comfortable with a real loo that flushed! Luxury!!
We bumped into Kathryn from Koh Phangan almost instantly and she was straying only 2 mins away from us in a place with a pool...result! We met up with her that eve and went out for dinner and it was the 3 pof us for the next few days. Amy and I did our SIS Diving course which was AMAZING! Kathryn also joined us for a day diving which was cool. All the instructors were brits of Canadians, so it was quite homely and relaxed.
It was just a really nice island. It was hit really badly by the Tsunami in 2004 and there were still areas where this was evident. A lot of the lush greenery was gone and there was building work where places were still being rebuilt. It was quite inspiring though just seeing how the thais had resumed normality despite what they must have witnessed.
There were a multitude of restaurants and bars to go to, my fave had to be a seafoodplace on the beach with a pinapple stuffed with rice and meats. Felt v.exotic! There was also a great reggae and ska bar on the beach with live music which was pretty cool. We looked quite out of it not having drealocks but the cocktails were good all the same!
We took a trip to Maya beach which is a small island just off where we were (Phi Phi is made up of a few islands). This is where 'the beach' film was made. The beach itself was overrun by tourist boats and ships which was a little disappinting and there really wasnt much else to see. Our longtail boat driver was pretty cool though and took us just round the corner where we snorkelled. Was amazing again, did slightly get freaked out when 5 schools of fish converged on me all in one go. I couldnt see for all the colours and fins infront of me. I was also allowed to drive the boat which was pretty cool.
We ended up being here for just over a week, then off to Malaysia and Singapore to catch our flight to Oz in a few days time.
