At the risk of this blog becoming like a Quentin Tarrantino film (look it up Mum), I will attempt to continue to write in chronological order.
Today has been much better and other than the whince from the credit card, so far it has been an uneventful day (it is now 4pm so I hope I haven't just tempted fate). I have spent much of the day trying to avoid talking to anyone European who just wants to share war-wound stories about how long they've been here, how awful the situation is etc, before they order their next cocktail. I have found that this is quite a hard task as I read in our complementary copy of 'Gulf News' that there are 40,000 people affected, so it's no eye contact with caucasions for the duration methinks!
We had the ridiculous task of trying to check in as new customers whilst not checking out today, made all the more challenging by the fact that we booked in under Coates (due to the credit card being in my maiden name) and made the re-booking via the internet using Matt's. All the staff have been referring to us by name for the past 2 days and we had just accepted Mrs Ruth, Mr and Mrs Coates and any other variation so we have completely flumoxed them today by trying to explain that we are not trying to defraud them and that we are, in fact, Mr and Mrs Hare.
Meanwhile, we appear to have established the following routine to break up the day. Do see how varied it is:
7am wake and check sky news
10am laze by the pool
11.30am meet with hotel reception to discuss our bill and our room situation (move rooms as required - check emails/news and make bookings as necessary)
12noon back to the poolside
3pm complementary afternoon tea (ie our lunch)
6pm complementary drinks and canapes (ie a starter)
8pm evening meal - trying to order the cheapest thing off the menu.
And somewhere in between, when cremation gets boring, we check the internet.
There is also a window of opportunity for other exciting activities: today I have saved us the laundry service fees (approx three pounds per t shirt) by doing some handwashing using shower gel and apricot soap! It is all hanging up in our bathroom and will probably be dry by the middle of the week! Domesticity is my middle name, sometimes.
We have relaxed much more today and have enjoyed the pool and the sunshine and our platter of fresh fruit, trying to pretend that the fact that we will both be on unpaid leave from tomorrow is just pretend.
We are loving the facebook messages, texts and blog comments so keep 'em coming....and I hear you have a heat wave all of your own! Lots of love xxx
