Ok so i have had my first weekend in Juniata College.
On saturday we went to the internation centre where we were greeted with pizza and breaded fried cauliflower??? for lunch and we had a little meeting about rules and stuff to expect at Juniata, who will we meet what will be happening in the next few weeks and all that sort of information. Also told about the 'no drinking under 21' law...which was a bit scary how they told us we could be deported for breaking rules! after that we had a little wander around the tiny tiny town, there is pretty much nothing there and then we spent some time around campus. Ed and i decide to find the coffee shop that we had hear about and eventualy we did. I had a chili flavoured hotchocolate which was amazing and definatly an experience. Ed was disapointed in the americans tea making abilities. when we got back to my room my roommate Lizie was there unpacking her stuff. She was really nice and im gald i have a good person to share my room with as i was worried that we would not get on or somthing. After all that excitedmnt it was dinner time and the international leaders took us to a chinese buffet. Ed and I were shocked that we could have unlimited refils of mountain dew and rootbeer so i think we drank alot more than we ate! Then we got our first trip to Walmart which was definatly exciting....it was so big and you can buy anyting! anything there. We got some american moblie phones or cells. When we came back it was off to bed again as we were all suffering from jet lag stil.
On sunday we all met in the moring and went to Sheetz which is like a petrol station but with cool food. To order your food you use a touch screen computer and select anything you want what ever drink you wnat then a free minutes later it arrives for you just how you wanted it. So cool lol and everything is pretty cheap here tho when you see the price of somthing on a shelf its without the tax, which they add on at the till. This is confusing if you dont no why they are charging you more of somthig than it said.
Whne we got back we had some orientation meeting with the Dean of students. There were american new students to who had transfered or sometihng there too. He told us about our classes and if we needed any help we just had to ask etc etc we were then shown how to finally get on the computers and get our laptops to work on the system....it had been 3 days without facebook...not fun. We alos had to go to meeting with our advisors who told us what our classes are...mine are Major American Writers 2, Forms of Literature, French Cinema and U.S.history since 1945. I also got roped into doing 2 other minor classes called language in motion and unlock your voice...i am yet to find out what they are. I met up with the other new arrivals and we were taken to Eagles Landing which is one of the campus resturants. We had so much choice and all ended up having the same thing...but it was nice anyway. Back to our rooms to settle in so we could be fresh for monday morning and the start of class!
Today i had my first class, it was major american writers! It was at 9am! i had to get up really early and have a cold shower ready for my class. It was really interesting and everyone seemed very clever and there is definatly alot more work to do that there is in england.
And now im off to my next class, forms of literature!
