So, both Anne and I have now handed in our notice at our respective workplaces and thanks to Anne's impeccable organisation, we have acquired the majority of our attire and have nearly completed our extensive course of injections.
At this current moment, Anne is having trouble with a feisty online order for our merino wool base layers, but once that is sorted and aside from a few further purchases, there's really not much more to do other than to wait it out; Well, I say this now but there's probably an abundance of imperative duties that I'm forgetting.
I can't really explain my personal feelings at the moment, other than just pure excitement and anticipation. I've never once even stayed in a hostel, or been on a train longer than to Glasgow or London (from Manchester), yet in the next few months, we'll be living out of hostels and we'll be travelling literally half way around the world by train, including undertaking one of the longest rail journeys this planet has to offer.
It feels like I've had this idea to go travelling since the dawn of time. I was reading through old Facebook messages that I had sent to a friend in 2007 and I wasn't surprised to read that I had noted my intentions back then. When I actually think that this is all just over one month away, it just feels completely unreal.
We've been cutting back on certain things over the last few months, including the purchase of a new mattress - we have had to make-do with an air bed for the short interim period. However, I personally could probably do with being slightly more savvy with my own cash. I think the problem with this final month, for me at least, is that I want to spend as much time with everyone as possible. This usually means activities of some sort, whether it be food, drink, movies and it could equate to £20 at a time. This could be a weeks accommodation in South East Asia, so I think I really need to start putting things into perspective a lot more.
On a final note, I think I've added a few unwanted inches around the waist line recently due to a rather decadent last few weeks. I'm hoping that Anne's predictions are right in that I'll shift the unwanted few pounds in no time, just as soon as we're on the road.
I'll be back in our last week to update on the final preparations.
