Even though we were awake at half 5 we didn't make it to breakfast until 8-our complimentary breakfast I might add!! The breakfast was interesting-chicken sausages, potato wedges, rice and warm lemony milk for cereal-yum yum!!!
Laura and Sam were attacked and escaped, only just, with their lives intact; after a buzzing creature tried to murder them (according to Lau) whilst in the lift-as you can imagine this was hilarrious(and only slightly exagerated!)!!
First off today was a trip to sentosa, via a cable car acros the harbour-the views were amazing and we got some good pics-we will upload all of them when we get a better connection-probs at the airport. We didn't do much on the island as must of the stuff was aimed at kids and you had to pay extra. However the island was set up with a flower show, where scenes from nursery rhymes were made out of flowers-humpty dumpty was the best one!! There was also the original Merlion which is HUGE!! Coming back on the cable car was an experience! We were at the highest point when it decided to stop for at least ten minutes, needless to say we were all crying...with laughter, although Sam and Fi were petrified, though it didn't stop us from laughing so much that the carriage rocked!!! oops!
We then headed to Raffles which was so cool! The front was so impressive with the doormen dressed up in traditional Indian dress, and the walk to the long bar down one side of the hotel was lovely-fountains and gardens and balconies-next time we'll stay here please!!! As you walk into the long bar the sight is impressive, with old style fans hanging from the ceiling and peanut shells covering the floor. Here we FINALLY had the famous Singapore Sling, which were delicious-even Fi thought so!!! We spent a couple of hours sitting drinking, relaxing and crunching peanuts-as you can guess our mess from the peanuts was a small mountain!!
In the evening we headed to the Night Safari, which is about half an hour from the city via an express bus service. Although we nearly fell asleep on the bus once we got there we were wide awake. Whilst eating bongo burgers-chicken nuggets for Lau-we watched a fire breathing show and looked at some of the animals on display-a baby leopard and 2 huge hideous snakes!! (Our third snake of the day after the snake charmer on Sentosa Island). We then took a 45 minute tram ride in the dark through the zoo. By the way the zoo is all open-there are no fences or barriers and it was pitch black-us scared never!! Our guide was very enthusiastic but when the hyena were squawking at something on the other side of us, and after her mentioning they have the second strongest jaw of a crocodile, we were a bit freaked out when we sat their in the middle of these predators and their prey. But luckily she was just peachy behind her little plastic cabin!!!! We saw the big five-elephants, rhinos, hippos, giraffes and lions, as well as tigers, flamingos, hyenas and loads more-although no monkeys as they dont come out in the dark-how sad!! Laura was annoyed that there were no polar bears-although apparently she did't expect them to be there-whatever!!
The coach people were really nice and dropped right at our hostel which was muchly appreciated-our feet were killing!!
We now feel more like we are on Singapore time as we went to bed at 12.30 instead of 9!!
Anyways off for another packed day and it's chinese new year! So well write again from the airport. Hope everyone is fab!
