We've finally started our 'Big Trip', although there was a bit of a hiccupp as Fi and I wanted to fly from terminal 3 whereas Sam was at terminal 4 from 6:30 waiting to meet us at 8!!! Neadless to say Sam was in the right place!!! Anyway moving on, we arrived in Singapore yesterday at 8 in the morning (midnight for you all) after our 12 hour flight on which we had absolutely NO sleep!!! Opps!!! However we did manage to watch some good films including The Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, Borat and many others! Bex don't panic about being bored as there's lots of games too!!!
Turns out our hostels more of a hotel, so comfort and maid service as well as the internet! Although it is a bit far from everything - so we're making the use of the shuttle bus and they did let us check in 5 hours early!! So we tried to grab a couple of hours sleep before heading out to explore.
We headed to Orchard Road first to grab some food and have a look round the shops - there's loads of shopping centres up and down that one street - is unbelievable! Everyone said that there was loads, didn't realise there would be this many!!! Bypassed the shops as we we're knackered and boiling as it's so humid! Next we took the MRT (cheap underground 50p) to Raffles Place which is the CBD. Where it contrasts between tall sky scrapers and old shacks - pretty cool! We toured the river on a 'bumboat' and saw all the different quays along the river as well as the merlion and hedgehog which we'll upload once we get a fast connection!!
We stopped for a drink at the earliest quay (100 yrs old), which is opposite Raffles landing site. Then we decided on an early dinner at Clarke Quay as we were exhausted after 36 hours with no sleep! Quayside Seafood was an amazing chinese restaurant with a balcony over the river, where we had noodles (with raw egg), satay chicken (we think it was chicken) and other yummy stuff! Whilst eating we experiences our first rainstorm with thunder and lightning, which looked very impressive in the distance behind the tall buildings but not as fun closer (for Lau and Sam)!!
We then headed back to the hotel and we got to sleep about 9:30 finally!!! That was until the alarm clock went off at midnight twice and then Ben rang at 5:30 which ended our peacefull sleep, as the builders started hammering straight after!!!
That's all for now - we're off to Sentosa Island, Raffles and the night zoo and we don't wanna miss our 2nd shuttle bus of the morning!!
Lots of love and hugs from all of us xxxxxx
