Kate's Chronicles
Started my holidays with 2 days in Disneyland and to complete the Disney expereience stayed at the Disney Hollywood Hotel. I arrived in the early evening and had to wait several hours before the family joined me from Australia.......the place was a buzz from the moment I entered the hotel. It was like entering a giant room where all the kids were on speed!!!!
Disney Hollywood Hotel is the complete clique of everything Disney but why not enjoy the whole experience while you are there. From the moment of arrival the staff are there to greet you with a friendly smile. We were traveling as a family group and on check-in I asked if it was possible to get us adjoinging rooms- explaining that I had come from China, the family coming from Aus and we hadn't seen each other in nearly 12 months plus the fact we had an 8 year old who had no idea that I was going to be there to meet them. The reception staff thought that was wonderful and without further ado they set about helping me to make my surprise welcome happen...... Despite being fully booked out the reception staff bent over backards, juggling guests bookings, to find us adjoining rooms. got me to check the rooms were what we wanted and then unlocked the adjoining rooms to help with the surprise if I missed the family at reception. Full marks to the Hotel :)
While waiting for the family I dined in the Studio Lounge where the staff were friendly, attentive and ever so helpful. There was a movie on the big screen which I thought was Rapunzel but am now told its the new version called Tangled (showing my age now!) Over dineer and several glasses of wine I enjoyed the movie...more than many of the kids in the room I think....several at nearby tables laughed when they saw me smiling and laughing at the movie!!!
Family arrived late in the evening and with the help of staff they had me hiding behind a huge lamp to surprise our little girl......The look on Miss Ella's face was priceless....she was already overwhelmed by the hotel itself and then I heard her Dad say "look around carefully and see what else is about". She spotted me and just about bowled me over with the biggest grin on her face :) She hugged me so tight as she didn;t beleive it was really me.....not sure who got the most emotional the parents, child or me!!!
Settled into our spacious, comfortable rooms complete with Mickey Mouse amentities - including child size slippers with mickey ears on them!! We then had to try and sleep in preparation for our big day at then Disneyland Park the next day.
Up bright and early, breakfast in Club Mickey- a buffet with something for everyone and if you leave hungry then only blame yourself- and then onto the shuttle bus to the Park. We opted to buy a 2 day pass which I would recommend to anyone with children. Although HK Disneyland is the smallest in the world it is not lacking for things to do and 2 days means you can do it at a leisurely pace and get to experience everything.
Hong Kong Disneyland. This is the smallest Disneyland in the world but still offers heaps of fun for both "big" and small children!! There are four main areas or 'lands' to explore: Mainstreet USA, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Adventureland. Adventureland has an African theme and it can be navigated by jumping on the Jungle River Cruise. Also can visit Tarzan's treehouse and watch the wonderful Lion King Show.Tomorrowland has all the latest from recent years and i didn't know a lot of the stories but that did not deter me from enjoying the atmosphere anyway! When you get your tickets you are given an easy to follow guidemap and show time schedule so you can plan how you want to see everything.
Fantasyland (my favourite) entered via Sleeping Beauty’s Castle includes the Fantasy Gardens where all the Disney characters can be found and favourite rides such as Dumbo the flying elephant, Cinderella’s Carousel and the Mad Hatters tea cups. Enjoyable sit in boat rides include “it’s a small world” and the “adventures of Winnie the Pooh”. Although the rides go far too fast to actually see everything there is a riot of colour and lots of “ooos and ahhs” from everyone. The Golden Mickey show is well worth watching and Mickey's Philharmonic- a 3D magical adventure is definitely not to be missed. We sat through the show twice to get the full effect!!!
Every day the stars from Walt Disney's classic animated films come to life in 'Disney on Parade', a lavish moving spectacle in Hong Kong Disneyland Park. Disney celebrities - including Mickey Mouse, Snow White, Ariel, Chip 'n' Dale and the Cheshire Cat - perform in the daily parade that winds throughout much of the theme park. The parade begins in Fantasyland and passes in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle and down Main Street, U.S.A. Nearly 100 performers and technicians plus articulated puppet figures are part of the colourful parade. This is one parade not to be missed…and our little Ella was invited to join in the parade which made it extra special for us!!
Two days of very special memories has been a great way to start our Hong Kong holiday. There is so much more I could write about but my suggestion is to do yourself a favour and go and experience it for yourself...... It is now time to head into Kowloon where we are staying and enjoy the rest of what HK has to offer......looking forward to more adventures. Bye for now. xxx
