We arrived in Singapore to the 75% humidity and cloudy sky. As our taxi driver told us, it was monsoon season so we were predicting rain for our couple of days. However after checking into the 'rucksack inn' hostel and having a good nights sleep, we woke up to bright sunshine. The hostel was like living in someones house, with our room going onto the lounge and everyone had to take their shoes off to enter the building. Very cute place though, with free breakfast (of toast and peanut butter), free drinking water and free internet. What more could a backpacker want?
Trying to save the pennies, we have been travelling for a while without guide books so we decided to look for the 'city sightseeing bus'. After walking around and following the bus in various directions to find a stop we had to rest in an air conditioned shopping centre from the heat, then a cleaning lady directed us to the correct bus stop! After travelling around the city we found a nice little restaurant on the river and stopped for lunch, followed by a boat trip on the river, then explored clarke quay in the evening (wishing we had some nicer clothes to go out in!) . Next day back on the bus again and went on the Flyer which was really good! Mark managed to overcome his phobia of heights for half and hour by sitting in the middle but got some great views of the Formula 1 track, the city and to Marks delight a floating football pitch.
That evening Simon arrived (friend from Uni) and we went out for dinner and drinks. Unfortunatley the cheapest place we found to have a happy hour drink was Hooters (waitresses in hot pants), lucky me. A few drinks later and Singapore was over, ready for our train the next day to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
