I am now here in Takoradi, which will be my base for he rest of my time in Ghana! I am living with Fiffi Assan, who runs the school and I'm being very well looked after by him and his extended family, with fabulous homecooking Ghanaian style! Outside my window there are plaintain tes and goats, so I feel like I am living like a Ghanaian now! Takoradi is a very bustly, excitng town with a fantastic market, the smells and sights are incredible! I've seen very few other tourists, and I'm getting lots of calls of 'Obruni' (white man! buis an affectionate term).
I have had four days at the Music School, and things are movig fast. We have already rehearsed some ensemble music with the teachers (Haydn's 'Surprise' which went really well!) and then tomoorow I will rehearse the student orchestra. Everyone at the school is very welcoming and appreciative of me coming! This afternoon I am going to the studios of 'Sky1' in Ghana, where I have been asked to play trombone for Songs of Praise! Quite bizarre, but will be fun all the same. Then on Sunday I will play my first gig (just doing a few songs) with the schools Highlife/Reggae band on the beach in Sekondi (a nearby town). They are seriously funky!
I will add some photos when I find a quicker internet connection! So for now I'll say goodbye and thanks for the lovely messages, it means a lot to me! James
