Tullum to Caye Caulker-Belize was an interesting trip. I left it up to the other two to organise this leg for a change. I won't be doing that again. I asked them to look and book a hostel but they left it until we arrived. The bus from Tullum to the boarder crossing was fine. Although the price of the ferry over to Caye Caulker in Belize was expensive alone. Nevermind, this stupid admission fee they added if you couldn't prove that you have paid your entrance tax when we flew into Mexico. I checked my flight invoice but it did not say that we paid it, but we had. This pissed everyone off and put a damper on our day. The boat ride across was stifling, no air con or breeze, it was terrible. When we finally arrived in Caye Caulker, 10 hours later. We were walking around trying to find available accommodation whilst being eaten alive by a swarm of mosquitoes, it was awful. All we wanted to do was check in and go for food, as we haven't eaten for 7 hours. We managed to find a hostel which had availability. What a complete dive, it was disgusting. We paid more for this hostel than anywhere we have previously been and it was the worst. No air con, no fan to begin with, which barely worked anyways. Couldn't open the windows because of the mosquitoes. Most awful two nights sleep. We did get a room to ourselves with an ensuite but the place had never been cleaned and the sealing was pealing off with all the residue on the top bunks. Such a laid back culture here it's crazy. And I never knew that Belize spoke English and they have the Queens face on their money. They are very much like Jamaica. Full of rastas, reggae music, weed and jerk chicken on the bbq's. There motto here is, "Go slow, but keep moving"!
Luckily the island saved itself from a negative opinion from us, once we went on a snorkelling trip. Belize has the second largest reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef. Has to be the best snorkelling trip I have ever done. To start off the visibility in the water was super clear and the water was really calm too, unlike the Great Barrier Reef. It was just us three and one Asian girl on our boat which was perfect, as the other boats we saw were full. We went to five different sites, however the first one shocked me from the second I got in. I put my head under and I saw a sting ray straight away. That was nothing compared to what I did finally see. Our tour guide fed this huge eel that came towards me and wrapped itself around me, so slimy. Then we saw 20+ reef sharks and sting rays just swimming around us. It was a crazy experience, scared at the start but eventually became accustomed to them. Stroked a sting ray which was a strange feeling, such beautiful creatures though. Then we went to a site where we held a small fish in our hands and these huge fish called Tarpoons, would jump out the water and take it out of your hand. Gopro came to good use and the quality of the videos and pictures are insane. I would fully recommend getting a good Gopro, rather than skimping out on those cheap, fake GoPro's that are on Amazon. I have plenty of videos to put up on my blog, but unfortunately the blog will not allow me to do so via my phone. I think I have to download another app to upload it.
